Roger Hanson
Roger Duane Hanson was born to Ivel and Mae Hanson in Crookston, MN on April 11 , 1939. He was raised on a farm around Beltrami with 2 older sisters, Elayne and Audrey, and one younger brother, LeRoy. Education was important to Roger. He attended Beltrami elementary school and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in May of 1957. After high school he attended Moorhead State and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in social studies education. Then, he achieved his Master's Degree in American history at North Dakota State University.
While going through school, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Hoffe. They were married on March 21, 1959. They made their home in Moorhead where their daughter Debbie was born in 1962.
After receiving his education, Roger taught social studies in Felton, MN for one year. After that, he answered a call to teach junior high social studies in Great Falls, MT. He and Shirley spent the next 14 years in Great Falls where he taught and hobby-farmed in the Highwood Mountains. In the summer he also did some trucking for a transport company. A son, Dennis, was born in 1965. In 1976, Roger and his family decided to take over his father's farm in Beltrami where he farmed until he retired shortly before his stroke. Since community service was important to him, he served on the Sandhill Watershed Board for 41 years. Going to have coffee with the other Beltrami guys every day, bible study, traveling, fishing, wood working, and his family brought hours of enjoyment. He and Shirley have 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Fair Meadow Nursing Home has been his home for the last year. He continues to be a member of Resurrection Free Lutheran Church.
